Flexible Sigmoidoscopy

Flexible Sigmoidoscopy

A flexible sigmoidoscopy is a more minor version of a colonoscopy, where only the bottom part of the colon and the rectum are examined with a small camera. It is a procedure that is usually performed to determine what is the cause of rectal bleeding. It requires a minor prep (usually 2 water enemas prior to the procedure) and frequently can be performed with or without sedation depending on the patient’s preference.
